An interview with Geesee founders Roman Pohancenik and Milan Zigmond. I think it can be nice and interesting project of friends of mine. Let’s check, what is all about…
What is Geesee?
Geesee is a new free chat service for any website and any internet user. Anybody can join a huge global community and chat on any website that has Geesee. There will always be someone to talk to and users can search tagged chat rooms to find other people interested in the same topics.
Why did you come up with Geesee.com?
Once we met at a chalet and were eating sheep cheese noodles (Slovak national food). We decided to build something useful, some sort of quality service for people all around the world. We wanted to do something that we would love to work on and which would bring real value, as well as a lot of fun, to the users. So we came up with an idea for something like a global chat. Later we named it Geesee.
Whose idea was it?
The idea was both of ours. It evolved from scratch to the point where it is now. We were looking for a service that would allow us to utilize our experience and that would move us to the next level. After long Skype meetings, we created a list of principles on which our next project should stand. On this basis we came up with a couple of services that would fit, and we chose the best one. The other ideas are still waiting in our drawer to be brought to life.
Who stands behind Geesee?
Roman Pohancenik and Milan Zigmond. We are both authors of the idea and co-founders of Geesee, Ltd. We didn’t have enough money to realize this idea by ourselves, so we have three angel investors supporting us and financing the project.
What is that “thing” that you believe will make you successful?
We didn’t discover anything new, that wasn’t our intention. We only combined things that were already out there into a single functional whole, one that creates added value. To speak about uniqueness today is hard. When you have an original idea, and then look around, you find that something similar has already been used by other people. The base idea can be simple, but the final adaptation can vary a lot. When I want to chat, I want to enter a chat and talk. I don’t want to search for chats or people in chats all over the internet – all that should be there and accessible already. We think that our success is based in bringing people what they want.
You’ve had a long pre-campaign. Why did you choose this type of project launch?
Chat is about communication among many people. To be sure that Geesee will work on the day of launch, we need to have a certain number of users ready to jump in right away. That’s why we launched a pre-campaign page and are accepting beta testers. The reason is to make Geesee work the way we envisioned from day one.
Since the pre-campaign is out there already, have you had any feedback from curious surfers?
Sure, we’re getting a lot of feedback, both positive and negative. People can’t wait to try it out on their sites, they want to beta test. Of course there are people that don’t like the idea so much, but that’s fine. 100 people have 100 different tastes.
Are you happy with the feedback so far?
Yes, we are. Over 90% of our pre-campaign audience like it so far. We know that it’s not easy to catch people’s attention with only screenshots or descriptions. That’s why we value each signed beta tester and everyone who signed up for our newsletter. We want to say “thank you” to all of them for their trust, and we promise them a pleasant surprise when we launch.
Who can put Geesee on their websites?
Anybody. Everybody. Site owners won’t have any problem adding Geesee to their sites. Of course, we’ll strongly support the blogosphere as well.
How much does Geesee cost?
Nothing. It’s free.
Why free?
The internet today is huge and full of different solutions. Why would anybody pay for anything if there are alternatives for bringing high-quality service to end users? When something costs even a dollar or a crown, that business is losing customers.
How do you cover your expenses?
Expenses will be covered from advertising in the service. To handle a large amount of people chatting costs money. Finances are needed for the hosting and continuous developing of Geesee. Our advertising will not bother the user, but will help him to get what he wants. In other words, it will be targeted in many ways in order to optimize its relevance for the user.
Do you have another project together planned for the future?
Even now, we know, that we’ll be adding features to Geesee in the long run. So there’s a lot of work facing us in the coming months or even years. Users will determine the direction Geesee will go. As I’ve said, we have other ideas waiting to see the light of day.
Do you want to say something to your future users?
Definitely. That we can’t wait to bring them Geesee and to see how they’ll use it. We don’t want to make them wait even a minute longer than necessary. So far, everything is going according to plan, and during October 2006 we will be launching limited beta testing. In the meantime, they can stay tuned on blog.geesee.com and www.geesee.com, where they will find all the latest info.
